Rapper Lil' Wayne sentenced to one year

Rapper Lil' Wayne, whose birth name is Dwayne Carter, was sentenced on Monday March 8th to one year in prison on felony gun possesion charges. He was caught in 2007 in front of the Beacon Theater in Manhattan, New York with a .40 caliber pistol on his tour bus. Even though his attorney says the pistol belonged to someone else Carter still took the blame. His prosecution was delayed twice, once to get his diamond studded braces removed from his teeth, and another due to a fire at a courthouse. He plead guilty, giving no statement due to an agreement with the District Attorneys office.
I believe that this is both fair and unfair, if he wasn't such a famous person in the world of music the trial would have gone unnoticed by the public. But for him to take the blame for another person is really an honorary thing to do. Well that is if he even did take the blame for someone else, and that wasn't just a cop out to possibly get the blame taken off of him. But for him to spend up to a year in jail, i believe is a bit excessive. He should have to do time just like the next person who gets caught on gun charges, but because of his fame he could put his time to good use. Instead of staying in jail for a year he could bring awarness to different causes, or work off his time doing community service work. By him just going out into the public and bringing attention to certain causes he could make such a big difference. The fame he would bring to a certain charitable cause would bring in hundreds of volunteers, and hundreds of dollars donated to help out. So instead of him sitting away in jail for a year and getting special protection his time could be spent alot more wisely.
